Florida Association of Business Tax Officials Inc

The Florida Association of Business Tax Officials Inc is a nonprofit professional organization established to meet the educational and informational needs of municipal and county business tax officials across Florida.

History

The organization was originally formed in 1988 as the Florida Association of Occupational Licensing Officials, Inc. by the Bay Area Chapter. Over time, as statewide interest grew, additional chapters were established, including Central Florida, Gold Coast, Big Bend, Palm Beach, and Treasure Coast Chapters. In January 2007, the Florida Legislature renamed Occupational Licenses to Local Business Taxes, prompting the association to change its name to its current form, Florida Association of Business Tax Officials (FABTO), to align with these statutory changes.

Objectives and Activities

FABTO focuses on providing professional development opportunities for its members. This includes organizing conferences and networking events where officials can engage in discussions and workshops aimed at improving tax administration practices. The association plays a crucial role in enhancing collaboration among municipal and county officials, thereby contributing to more effective local governance.

Annual Education Conference

One of the key events organized by FABTO is its annual education conference. This gathering provides a platform for members to address their professional needs, share insights on tax policies, and explore strategies to streamline tax administration processes. The conference also facilitates networking among peers, fostering a community of practice among business tax officials.

Structure and Operations

FABTO operates as a nonprofit with a broad representation across Florida's municipal and county governments. It is recognized within the industry of civic and social organizations and is known for its educational efforts.

Financial Overview

The organization's revenue is reportedly between $1 million and $5 million annually. As a nonprofit, it relies on membership fees, sponsorships, and other grants to support its operations and initiatives.

Industry Classification

FABTO is classified under the NAICS code 8134, which pertains to Civic and Social Organizations, reflecting its role as a professional association dedicated to public service and governance.
