Mission and Vision

The mission of Stem Atlanta Women is to enlighten, educate, and empower women and girls to leverage global opportunities in STEM and acquire the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st Century. The organization envisions enhancing and increasing the talent pipeline in STEM careers for women and girls in underrepresented and underserved communities. It aims to disrupt unconscious bias in tech and bridge the gender gap in STEM education.

Programs and Initiatives

Stem Atlanta Women offers a variety of programs that foster hands-on, project-based learning. These include master classes, tech labs, hackathons, conferences, and entrepreneurial training. By integrating STEM disciplines into real-world applications, the organization encourages holistic learning and career development. Its programs support middle and high school girls, college students, recent graduates, and professional women in STEM.

Impact

The organization has reached over 265,000 people indirectly and directly served nearly 7,500 students. It prioritizes serving underrepresented groups, with more than 90% of the girls it supports coming from Black, Latina, or low-income households.

Leadership

Stem Atlanta Women was founded by Dr. Maxine Cain, an influential figure in the tech industry known for her leadership in promoting inclusivity and innovation in STEM education. Dr. Cain has been recognized with several awards, including the Biden President’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Georgia Outstanding Citizen Award.

Partnerships and Support

Stem Atlanta Women is supported by the National STEM Honor Society. The organization's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is central to its operations, celebrating diversity across all spectrums and actively working to empower women and girls in STEM globally.
