The leading non-profit organization for Black and African women creatives. Founded by Polly Irungu. #BlackWomenPhotographers #HireBlackWomenPhotographers We're a home for Black women and non-binary photographers to receive proper recognition, and most importantly, get hired. #HireBlackWomenPhotographers Established in July 2020 by Polly Irũngũ, Black Women Photographers (BWP) is a global community, directory, and hub of over 2,100 Black and African creatives, spanning over 60+ countries and 35+ U.S. states. The collective offers free educational resources such as regular programming of virtual and in-person events, webinars, workshops, trainings, conferences, meet ups, and exhibitions. BWP supports its members through an annual $50K grant fund, donating free equipment, providing free portfolio reviews, and promoting their work in an active database distributed to brands, photo editors, directors, curators, art buyers, and industry gatekeepers. BWP is dedicated to mentoring visual artists at all stages of development, with the aim to increase access to professional and paid opportunities.
