The special election saw an incredible turnout from Sitkans defeating Proposition 1. Unofficial results show that 73% of voters voted “no”, and 27% voted “yes”. Our deepest thanks go out to everyone who cast a ballot. This municipal election saw record early voting participation, with over 40% of voting-age Sitkans turning out to vote. It was a powerful demonstration of what we can achieve when we come together. This was an important moment for the business community to find its voice and stand up for Sitka’s economic future. We are proud to call this place home and remain committed to welcoming visitors who contribute to the vibrant and resilient spirit of Sitka for many years to come. We are especially grateful to Safeguard Sitka's Future for leading the effort to defeat this proposition. It was an honor to stand alongside their organization and unite as an industry in support of Sitka’s long-term well-being. We are committed to continue moving forward with supporting industry-led initiatives that support sustainable and regenerative tourism for the benefit of all.
