Members of St. Luke’s Magic Valley and Canyon View recently took part in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an annual event organized by Voices Against Violence. Men and women wear high heels to walk an uncomfortable mile to support and stand up for sexual assault survivors. Local organizations also staffed information booths to let community members know about resources available. Volunteers from St. Luke’s included Garth Blackburn, Kory Krieger, Matt Harrington, Vibecke Thompson, Emily O'Connor, Sam Fife, Syringa Fife and Courtney Sant. Teams in Boise, Twin Falls and Jerome recognized EMS Safety Day on April 24, an opportunity to gather crews to discuss key issues and celebrate their work. More than 150 people attended, with introduction from leadership including Dennis Mesaros (vice president, population health), Travis Leach (COO Hospital at Home/Virtual Care Center), Nolan Hoffer (VP operations, rehab) and Dr. David McClusky (chief quality and safety officer). Safety Day is a day recognized as a time to bring crews together to focus on safety, safe practices, teamwork, communication, collaboration and well-being. Speaker Robert Teschner, a former fighter pilot and award-winning author, focused his keynote and breakout sessions around the practice of accountability in high-performing teams and how the act of debriefing, when applied correctly without blame, can lead to marked improvement in teams. The day closed with a focus on well-being delivered by Eren Barker (in Boise) and support from Laura Stewart (Magic Valley). St. Luke's EMS crews consist of EMTs, paramedics, flight nurses, Respiratory Therapists and they can go by ambulance, rotor-wing (helicopter) or fixed-wing (jet) for the care and safe transfer of patients, not only within Idaho, but across the United States to deliver the most appropriate care for our patients. Teams consist of ground ambulance crews, critical care and MatCh (Maternal/Child), while Mobile Integrated Health team members are part of the Hospital at Home team and play an integral role in that new service offering. The Magic Valley Paramedics team is the 911 first responders for the Twin Falls County and the CHEMS team (Community Health Emergency Medical Services), which make up a total of almost 200 St. Luke’s EMS team members across Air St. Luke’s and Magic Valley Paramedics teams.
