ALVIN & ELIZABETH MCKINNEY FOUNDATION

McKinney Music Foundation

The Alvin & Elizabeth McKinney Foundation (AEMF) was established to teach music to youth located in disadvantaged communities by providing after school and weekend training classes designed to keep at risk youth off the streets; to provide music lessons on musical instruments to all ages, and to perform in band and orchestra. The AEMF teaches music theory, music composition, music production, and provides computer training as related to music production. The AEMF targets troubled youth categorized with behavioral problems and those seeking wholesome after school activities to participate in. To do so the AEMF hosts music workshops, clinics, provide individual and group lessons and promotes positive communication, among peer groups. The AEMF goals and objectives are achieved by utilizing and promoting self expression through music and the arts. The AEMF programs have been designed to provide incentives to stay in school and maintain a passing GPA point average which is monitored after the students begin to participate in the organizations programs. The organizations projects and programs are designed to reward accomplishments and expose young people to projects outside of the community they live in. The AEMF projects and programs are designed to help build self-esteem, character, discipline, team work, respect, encouraging and supporting others, values, principles, ethics, morals, sound/proven practice skills and techniques, promote accomplishments, and self help through the learning process. The organization will also develop cultural exchange programs for young people and adults.
