The ONLY collaborative, non-profit organization that provides resources, advocacy, support & empowerment for farmers who are innovating and demonstrating sustainable farming practices. Farmers for Sustainable Food
Farmers for Sustainable Food is a United States nonprofit organization aiming to promote and support farmer-led solutions to environmental challenges. The organization was originally formed in 2016 as the Dairy Strong Sustainability Alliance and later transformed into its current form, expanding its focus beyond dairy and Wisconsin to support sustainable farming practices across the Upper Midwest.
Mission and Vision
The mission of Farmers for Sustainable Food is to empower farmers to develop and implement practical, innovative solutions for environmental, economic, and social good. Their vision is to create a sustainable food system where farmers, their communities, and the environment thrive.
Activities and Impact
Farmers for Sustainable Food acts as a connecting point for collaboration among farmers, processors, environmental groups, scientists, food companies, community leaders, and agricultural businesses. They support farmer-led conservation groups and facilitate initiatives to measure the impact of conservation practices both environmentally and financially. As of recent developments, the organization supports seven farmer-led groups, covering significant acreage and livestock across several states.
Partnership and Growth
Initially established by the Dairy Business Association and The Nature Conservancy, Farmers for Sustainable Food has expanded its partnerships to include various stakeholders across the food supply chain. This network contributes to environmental improvements and promotes progress in agriculture, particularly in the Upper Midwest region. The group's momentum has increased over the years, reflecting a broader focus on innovation and collaboration beyond its initial dairy-oriented beginnings.
