Alena Sheriff's Ecology Club students are transforming waste at Twin Lakes Elementary School! When they audited their cafeteria waste, they were surprised by the amount of food scraps thrown away. They are using a $765 Student Innovation grant to create a recycling and composting program in their lunchroom. They plan to get worms for composting, install new bins in the cafeteria, and educate their peers about sorting waste, which will divert an estimated 27,000 lbs from the landfill. Great work!
