“I know that I have a cyclical and unbreakable line, between my art practice, my curatorial practice, my day to day living, and my spiritual practice.” - Ashara Ekundayo Thank you to everyone who joined us in-person for “The Culture Is The Cure”, an artist talk with Ashara Ekundayo, our visiting Mentorship Artist in Residence for the month of May. Based in Oakland, Ekundayo is a curator, artist, and activist whose practice is grounded in personal and community based lived experience. In her talk she reflected on how the intersections between her different fields of study ask us to maintain to embody joy, even amidst struggle, as a form of resistance and resilience. If you missed The Culture Is The Cure, don’t you worry! By bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds of the African Diaspora to engage in their creative process, the program exemplifies our commitment to “act locally and think globally,” building an ever growing ecosystem of international artistic community. 🎧 We’re back with a new episode of “Voices + Visions: The Podcast” featuring our 2024 David C. Driskell Fellowship Alum, Raquel P. Miller. Voices + Visions is an artist talk series featuring Indigo Arts Alliance’s alumni artists in residence, highlighting their creative intersections, distinct voices and their residency experience. From painting to drawing, Miller’s work is focused on the confrontations and expressions of identity, experiences, and emotions. In this episode, Miller reflects on the deep connections between artistic practice and emotional process, memorializing moments through painting while allowing meaningful connections to naturally emerge. Visit the link in our bio to listen to the full episode. 🎙️ — All episodes of Voices and Visions air on the 4th Tuesday, bi-monthly at 11:30 am EST.
