Back up as Requested <3 Holi Days: Spring Equinox – equinox is derived from the Latin word aequus meaning equal and nox meaning night. Equinoxes occur twice a year when the tilt of the Earth’s axis cause the length of day and night to be equal. It is no coincidence that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal or spring equinox. The spring equinox is a High Holy Day celebrated as a return of Spring and the promise that food stores would soon be replenished. Blessing of the Children – this annual Gnostic Festival includes requested blessings from Mother and Father God and prayers to protect and guide all children. Children in the congregation are ushered forward and blessed and anointed with Holy Water by a minister during the service. Optionally, congregation members bring in pictures of all the children in their lives so that they can be included in the blessing ceremony. Summer Solstice – solstice is a Latin word meaning the Sun, sol, stands still, sistere, and refers to the sun’s southward procession for the last six months halting for three days before it reverses direction. In the northern hemisphere, this is the longest day of the year and marks the beginning of Summer. Ancient Gnostics celebrated this day by bringing gifts and coins in appreciation of benefits received throughout the year. Today, Gnostics spread the word of the Mother God, Azna, as the bearer of gifts and bountiful blessings. It is also a day to bless and sanctify Her children. Festival of Lights – Gnostics know it as a combination of Hanukkah – an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem – and Rosh Hashanah – the festival of the beginning of the Jewish New Year. This festival is lost in history but usually coincided with autumn, the feast of harvest and the Jewish New Year. The earliest reference to this custom is found in Ezekiel 40:1. (Wikipedia) Autumn Equinox – this is the time of year when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south. It is also one of the two times during the year when the Sun rises due East and sets due West. Traditionally, the autumn equinox was a time when people came together to share the bounty of the earth after the Fall harvest. Today we bring gifts of fruits and vegetables to symbolize our appreciation for the abundance we’ve harvested during the past year. We also ask for assistance with the difficulties we face in the year ahead (symbolized by the coming winter.) Azna’s Feast Day – this is a High Holy Day Celebration in honor of our Blessed Mother. For thousands of years we got together and gave homage to Mother Azna. We light candles (light bulbs) asking for Her favors and give offerings of flowers, for She is the bringer of miracles. Winter Solstice – this High Holy Day Celebration is a time of remembrance and introspection for the year that has passed. It is a time to release old pains, guilt, illnesses and fears into the White Light of Holy Spirit for purification. Around the world, the symbolism of the winter solstice – the rebirth of the Sun – infuses all the holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations that occur during this time of the year. Our Mother, we address You as the Miracle Worker, the glorious vehicle of intercession and healing support. We petition You as the Queen and Guardian of the world, to bring Your grace and beneficence into our lives. We adore and honor You as the companion to our Blessed Creator, God the Father. We accept You as the counterpart to our creation and give our hearts and souls to You in service. We know You can help us fulfill our preordained chart for our own perfection.
