ZDR3 is the only zoological disaster response organization in the United States Zoological Disaster Response, Rescue, and Recovery (ZDR3) manages and coordinates an emergency response network that fills a unique need in the exotic animal industry by facilitating the provision of experienced personnel to exotic animal facilities (eg, zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries) in times of natural disasters or catastrophic events.

ZDR3 Zoological Disaster Response Rescue and Recovery Why does the zoological industry need a specialized disaster response organization. There are several excellent nonprofit and governmental disaster response organizations for domestic animals. As the only animal disaster response group specializing in nondomestic animals ZDR3 has become a resource for these groups when they discover a nondomestic animal or require related subject matter expertise. As an industryled effort ZDR3 provides support to zoos aquariums sanctuaries and other nondomestic animal businesses before during and after significant incidents.
