Life Matters International
Medical Mission designed to decrease maternal-fetal mortality rates through knowledge transfer According to the WHO, 800 women die every day from mostly preventable cause related to pregnancy (maternal mortality), especially in developing countries where access to doctors is poor. Our goal is to decrease this number and improve pregnant women's care there. We do so by teaching midwives the use of prenatal point of care ultrasound in remote areas of the Philippines. Ultrasound reliably improves prenatal care overall, allows for women to present timely at a safe facility for assisted birthing and reduces the number of emergencies at birth. In addition, we emphasize teaching mothers in preventive health. Together with our local partners we build capacity within local healthcare structures. Sustainability and scalability are ensured by enabling the midwives to also teach their peers.
