AFP has joined forces with The Nonprofit Alliance, United Philanthropy Forum, and Charity Navigator to voice critical concerns about "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill" currently before Congress. While we commend the inclusion of the above-the-line charitable deduction for non-itemizers, this bill imposes nearly $50 billion in new taxes on the charitable sector to offset other tax cuts. Recent data from the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and GivingTuesday's Fundraising Effectiveness Project shows that over half of all charitable dollars in 2024 came from "supersize" donors giving $50,000 or more. The proposed changes would directly reduce incentives for these major donors, in addition to additional tax burdens on private foundations and corporate charitable giving. We urge Congress to reconsider these provisions and instead focus on expanding giving incentives.
