Becoming a partaker of Divine virtue lies solely in the position of the will. It does not depend upon an extensive knowledge of the Bible, participation in religious activities, or personal ability but solely in a will that always, in everything, and without reservation wills what God wills. The Light and Spirit of God that were one with Him from all eternity, that were in Him and proceeded from Him, even before angels or any Heavenly beings were created, must throughout all eternity be the same Light and Spirit by which angels or men can ever have any union or fellowship with God. Every other light is only the light that gives beasts their senses and subtlety. Every other spirit is the spirit that gives fallen man and devils their pride and torment. The only difference between the Heavenly angels and devils is that the Light and Spirit of God are in the angels to generate their life whereas the devils are without them. So, if the Light and Spirit of God are not the sole illumination and inspiration of all the seeing and doing of a professing Christian, or a congregation of them, their zeal, splendor, and acquired knowledge of Scripture words can be nothing but spiritual darkness and displays of worldly glory inspired by carnal opinions of the Truth with which they have no union or fellowship. This occurs when people view the New Testament as a letter of Law and do not receive the power of the gospel to regenerate them into an entirely new creature who now possesses the Divine nature. “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life”(2 Corinthians 3:6). Being as the Spirit and Truth have been replaced by worldly wisdom and corrupt opinions in these cases, Satan is glad to support and sustain their works with the power he possesses as the prince of this world. Those of us who hate sin and love righteousness have got to stay on guard and see to it that our soul is only illuminated by the Light of God and that our life is only generated by the immediate, continual inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is the only way to be united with God, have fellowship with Him, fulfill His will, and be a true witness of Jesus.
