THROWBACK THURSDAY This photo was taken in 1993, a year before the EPIC and Marbled Murrelet v. Pacific Lumber Co. lawsuit. Owl Creek Grove is in the foreground, and scarred remnants of seed tree removal are in the background. This legal battleground would shape the fate of an endangered species and one of California’s last remaining old-growth redwood forests. Pacific Lumber had plans to log 137 acres of Owl Creek, a home to three known nesting habitats for the Marbled Murrelet. After an eight-day trial, the court found that the marbled murrelet did occupy the area, and that Pacific Lumber’s plans would cause illegal harm under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Logging was permanently barred. Do you think this victory is enough reason to safeguard the ESA against Trump's attacks? Knowing what’s at stake today, what do you think you can do to help defend it today? Let us know in the comments. EPIC has a rich history of environmental advocacy starting in the late 70's. In honor of that legacy, every Thursday we will share a snapshot of Humboldt environmental advocacy. #environmentalactivism #EPIChistory #Throwbackthursday #Protectthetrees (fb)

Public Lands in Danger: Congress's Budget Reconciliation This bill is the worst environmental bill the House has ever passed, and there are still terrible provisions that need to be removed! #EPIC #Protectthetrees #environmentalactivism #resistance #trump #conservation #environment #nonprofit #climateaction (fb)

About Us Campaigns Get Involved Blog Radio Shows Contact Us More Our forests and public lands are threatened by intensive logging and wildfire suppression practices deplete our forests and endanger our wildlife and watersheds. We monitor all proposed logging projects in Northwest Californiax27s national forests and watchdog public land managers to ensure they follow the law. We utilize legal tools to protect threatened and endangered species like the northern spotted owl from damaging human activities such as logging of suitable habitat for oldgrowth dependent species. EPIC is powered by our members not big grants or corporate sponsors.
