National Independent Venue Association

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is a prominent American trade association dedicated to supporting independent live music venues, promoters, and festivals. Founded in March 2020, NIVA was established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic's devastating impact on the live entertainment industry.

History

NIVA emerged as a unified voice for independent venues during a critical period when the industry faced unprecedented challenges. The organization was initially formed to lobby for federal aid, which culminated in the introduction and eventual passage of the Save Our Stages Act, later incorporated into the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program. This legislation provided $16.25 billion in emergency relief, marking the largest U.S. investment in the arts.

Mission

NIVA's mission is to cultivate, elevate, and advocate for a sustainable and equitable ecosystem of independent performance venues, festivals, and promoters. The organization aims to ensure that these venues thrive across the U.S., supporting local communities through live music and arts events.

NIVA has grown to include nearly 1,500 members across all 50 states, offering a comprehensive network and various benefits, including:

National Independent Venue Foundation

In addition to NIVA, the National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF) was established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) to preserve and nurture the independent live performance ecosystem. NIVF focuses on initiatives like emergency relief, workforce development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
