EV3Everywhere

Overview

EV3Everywhere is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Plano, Texas, focused on promoting global access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) education and related technologies[1][3][5]. Founded in 2017, the organization aims to bridge educational gaps by providing innovative learning solutions[4].

Mission and Activities

The mission of EV3Everywhere is to empower students, particularly those in underserved communities, with equitable access to robotics education. This is achieved through the development of virtual learning labs, which allow students with internet access to engage in robotics learning remotely. The organization also fosters a mentorship program where high school students can mentor and assist teachers, promoting a sense of community leadership[1].

Strategic Partnerships

EV3Everywhere collaborates with strategic global partners, including the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and the Star*fALL Foundation, to deliver a competitive and engaging robotics experience. These partnerships enable the organization to provide students with opportunities to participate in virtual competitions, leveraging the competitive framework of FLL to enhance engagement among remote learners[2].

Innovation and Technology

At the core of EV3Everywhere's approach is its innovative use of virtual labs. Unlike simulations, these labs allow students to see their work come to life in real-time, leveraging edge devices, cloud computing, and gateway devices. The organization is also developing software to integrate machine learning and computer vision, enhancing lab autonomy with features like automatic error detection and learning prompts[2].

Impact and Expansion

EV3Everywhere conducted pilot programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, testing its virtual labs with over 30 students in the United States. The results showed that remote learners could meet the same programming and research goals as in-person students, though with slightly reduced engagement. To mitigate this, the organization incorporated competitive elements into its virtual learning platform[2]. Future plans include scaling up these initiatives to reach a broader global audience.
