Dogs Matter is the only nonprofit organization providing free, temporary foster care placement and supportive services specifically for dogs of addicts and alcoholics seeking substance abuse treatment and transitioning into recovery. Our primary purpose is ensuring the welfare of the dog and their owner β reuniting them once our client has successfully completed treatment and is ready to be a healthy and responsible dog owner again.

RECOVER Foster Care Dogs Matter offers a safe and healthy environment for our clients dogs while they are seeking inpatient treatment and if necessary until they are healthy and stable enough to take care of their dog again. The choice to hand over a dog even if temporary is often the single biggest objection a dog owner has who is facing an extended inpatient treatment program for alcohol or substance use disorder. Over 90 of pet owners consider their pet part of the family.

When Elijah lost his truck and everything he owned in the middle of winter, he had no shoes, just a t-shirt and one pair of shorts. He was standing outside a Walmart with his 4 lb dog Ruby when our Recovery Coach Trish stepped in. She brought him to safety, and he was admitted to the hospital.
