Moccasin Children, Inc.

MISSION STATEMENTMoccasin Children exists with the intent to aide American Indian children of western Oklahoma in meeting their needs for school and living staples. We desire to instill in the youth a pride of culture and hope for their futures. We exist to encourage education along with cultural and spiritual growth so these children may move on to a richer future breaking the back of social dependence, substance abuse and the dramatic statistics that plague their existence. We further desire that these children maintain their cultural heritage and return to their homes with their education to create better living conditions for seven generations to come. >>>>>>>>> * Linda began in 2011 with 18 winter coats for local American Indian children. Today (Sept. 2015), Moccasin Children, Inc, provides school back packs, winter coats, pediatric cold medication and Christmas gifts for 400 Indian children in northwest Oklahoma, working with and through Indian churches, community centers and Title VII coordinators in public schools. We plan to add other programs in the future and expand to help more native children. We are hoping to add programs such as nutritional supplements, shoes, sleeping bags and jeans. We would like to stock a food pantry for winter emergencies and add an incentive program to encourage high school kids to graduate. Moccasin Children is taking our first trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in S. Dakota to speak with elders and view the living conditions of the children on the reservation to determine if we can be of assistance on the poorest reservation in the country, where children as young as 12 commit suicide.
