Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPaD) has officially launched a powerful new initiative to establish Safe Spaces for Women’s Rights Committees (WRCs), hosted under five major faith institutions: South Sudan Islamic Council Episcopal Church of South Sudan Presbyterian Church of South Sudan Seventh-Day Adventist Church Other Christian and interfaith partners This bold step is aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women in Juba. These safe spaces will provide trusted, inclusive environments where women can meet, share their experiences, build leadership skills, and advocate for their rights. Women and girls in Juba face ongoing challenges from gender-based violence to limited access to education and opportunities. This initiative helps bridge the gap by giving WRCs the physical and emotional space to grow, organize, and lead. On 20th May 2025, with technical support from CAPAD, young women from St. Mary School organized a one-day dialogue in Terekeka with stakeholders to discuss early and forced marriage, which is known to be alarming issue in the community. The dialogue brought together 25 participants, 15 young women, and 10 stakeholders. The aim of the dialogue is to engage key stakeholders in finding practical, community-driven solutions to end early and forced marriage by sharing real experiences, promoting girls’ rights, encouraging education, and strengthening accountability. During the session, the young women were able to ask the stakeholders with important and serious questions inregards to forced and child marriage in their community. Mr Clement Kenyi, the inspector general of education, said, i have been a teacher for over 43 years and have never had a session with very powerful young women who even asked me a question on why girls in their community have not been prioritised to education?
