Originally from the United Kingdom, Professor Pauline Reynolds may be among the few on campus who appreciate U of R’s occasional overcast skies and rainy days. She is a professor in the Department of Leadership and Higher Education where she has taught since 2008 for two different graduate programs – the M.A. in Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) and the Ed.D.. Reynolds teaches a variety of courses across these programs including the Qualitative Research Methods for the doctoral students and Media and Digital Technologies for Leadership in Higher Education with the HESA students. She loves working with students on their research and seeing them present it in formats that simulate academic conferences, like digital poster sessions, or at their dissertation defenses.  Her research examines representations of higher education in pop culture, so she jokes that she gets to watch TV and movies for work. Reynolds has published a few books in this area including “Representing U: Higher Education, Popular Culture, and Media,” as well as book chapters and articles. Currently, she is working on a project examining representations of women faculty in comic books.  The School of Education (SOE) recently celebrated its centennial. Over the last few years, Reynolds researched and wrote “Our Noblest Endeavor,” a history of the School, as part of the celebrations. Research for this book took her from the U of R archives to the State Archives in Sacramento, and archives at the University of Washington. One of the amazing facts she discovered was that the SOE had accreditation before the university!  Reynolds loves watching her son’s goalkeeper training coached by U of R’s Gio Napoletano, laughing with her husband, going to the beach when it’s not too hot, being inspired by the Great British Bakeoff for her own breads and desserts, growing veggies in her garden, and reading fantasy novels. She is also a huge footy (soccer) fan, supporting Derby County FC in England, any team her son is playing for, and of course, the U of R Bulldogs. Fun fact - her husband also works at the university - Associate Professor Eric McLaughlin in the Political Science Department. #FacultyFriday (fb)
