Delta Wind Birds

Delta Wind Birds is a nonprofit organization dedicated to habitat for migratory shorebirds ("wind birds"), with a focus on the Mississippi Delta. Delta Wind Birds is a nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organization dedicated to promoting migratory bird habitat through partnerships with private landowners, fostering ecotourism and economic growth around observation of migratory birds, raising awareness of bird migration and migratory habitat, and otherwise helping private landowners to protect their natural resources. Our primary focus is on shorebirds (or “wind birds”) in the Lower Mississippi River Valley (Delta), although many other species benefit from our habitat work, including ducks, herons, egrets, ibises, spoonbills, storks, and terns.

Delta Wind Birds DWB scholarships send young shorebird conservationists to Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group meeting in Canada This past August scholarships from DWB allowed three earlycareer bird conservation biologists to attend the 10th Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group meeting in Sackville New Brunswick Canada. Visit our blog post to learn more about their impactful adventure. Artist Julia Reyes has completed a stunning mural on the wall of the Jaketown Museum in Belzoni MS highlighting the birds plants and cultural heritage of the Sky Lake area. This project was supported by grant funding to DWB from the Mississippi Arts Commission a state agency and from the National Endowment for the Arts a federal agency.
