Feel Good Fri-YAY! Here's a look back a year ago when we added Norm and his dogs as a Kane's pet family. The first time we talked to Norman he told us, "My dogs are my life. I can't live without them." Norman is a disabled senior living with his three senior dogs Pee Wee - Chi mix, Jessie - Husky mix and Bella - Husky. This pet family was referred to us by our furrends Paws Finding Peace. We brought an emergency C.A.R.E. Kit of dry and wet dog food and treats. Norman showed us his refrigerator which was empty except for 2 items and we got him a gift card to a grocery store that day. We can't do this all the time, but we do what we can. Since that day, all three of Norman's dogs have been to vet visits and were updated on their shots. Jessie and Bella were put on anti-inflammatories for their arthritis and are feeling a lot better! We also made a referral to Western Mass Elder Care so Norman can get a case manager to connect him with resources like Meals on Wheels. Why would we go to such lengths for a hooman? Because we advocate for pet families - we emphasize the wellbeing of both the people and the dog. Dogs are only as stable as their hoomans. We don't try to be everything to everybody. That's why we work with area human service agencies to make them aware of our people needing support. This is the kind of work your donations make possible! Together, we accomplish so much more! Remembering Bela We are sad to share that Bela, an elderbull in Springfield that was recently treated for stomach issues has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Last week, Kane's coordinated a vet visit and provided transportation to our furrends at Mass Veterinary Services. With no physical sign of a growth, Bela was put on medication and probiotics. Unfortunately, her difficulty in laying down and general discomfort continued this week and she was again seen at Mass Vet Services yesterday. X rays revealed a mass in the chest. Her hoomans made the heartbreaking but compassionate choice to ease her suffering. Thanks to your support, Kane's sponsored $582.49 for diagnostics and euthanasia. We first began working with this pet family in 2023. Bela had mammary tumors removed and was also spayed. Bela was an acknowledged drama queen. Her hoomans doted on her and she loved them totally and completely. They are heartbroken and in shock today at her sudden decline. As her hooman Berty said, "She is a rainbow now."
