#OnThisDay in #AmericanRevolution #History 29 May 1765 Patrick Henry gave his 'treason speech' on his 29th birthday. 🇺🇸 Born on 29 May 1736, Patrick Henry is remembered for his fiery oration that helped lead Virginia to supporting American independence. In 1765, Virginia's House of Burgesses was discussing their response to Parliament's Stamp Act when Henry proclaimed, 'Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell, and George the Third—' He was interrupted by shouts of, “Treason! treason!” but he continued '—and George the Third may profit by their example! If this be treason make the most of it.' Almost 10 years later, Henry gave his most famous speech, in which he declared, 'I know not what course others may take but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!' #VA250 (fb)
