Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership

The Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Established in 2012, its mission is to educate the community in sustainable agricultural practices by producing food year-round using local renewable energy.

The Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership operates three 42-foot geodesic greenhouses known as the Education Dome, the Community Dome, and the Innovation Dome. These greenhouses are heated using geothermal energy from nearby natural hot springs, allowing for consistent year-round cultivation of a variety of plants in USDA hardiness zone 5a.

• Education Dome: This was the first greenhouse to become operational in 2017. It primarily focuses on educational activities, hosting students from the local school district for lessons in gardening, transplanting, and harvesting. The greenhouse remains active in producing vegetables and selling them, with a portion donated to local organizations.

• Community Dome: Here, community groups are involved in gardening activities using traditional raised beds. This dome encourages collaborative gardening among various community organizations and provides produce for local food banks.

• Innovation Dome: This greenhouse features an integrated aquaponic growing system, which produces vegetables and fish in a soilless environment. It employs a closed-loop water system to maximize food production while minimizing water consumption. The produce is sold to local restaurants, generating revenue for the organization and supporting its sustainability goals.
