Today, the U.S. House introduced the #ClinicalTrialModernizationAct, an important bill that would remove barriers to cancer patients participating in clinical trials by enabling trial sponsors to provide financial support to patients for costs associated with their trial participation and ensuring patients aren’t taxed or penalized for this support. This includes providing participants with technology to participate remotely when appropriate, as well as covering medical expenses such as copays and non-medical expenses such as travel, lodging, parking and food. These provisions would help make sure that all patients can participate in clinical trials, including those who are underrepresented in clinical trials like older adults, people with limited incomes, people who live in rural areas and certain racial and ethnic groups. We thank Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD and Congressman August Pfluger for introducing this bill and urge Congress to swiftly pass this crucial legislation so more cancer patients have access to treatment options that could save lives. The House is expected to vote this week on a bill that would cut #Medicaid by $715 billion and kick 8.6 million people off their insurance. We need to be improving access to affordable health care, not taking it away. Even if you've sent a message before, with so much at stake, will you send a message to your Representative now and urge them to vote NO on this bill? We have to remind them that cuts have consequences for cancer patients, children, seniors and more. #ProtectMedicaid (fb)
