Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in the military. Lion Heart The Lion Heart Heroes Foundation seeks to keep military hearts beating by promoting electrocardiogram (ECG) screening for our military servicemembers, donating automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to military bases and educating our Armed Forces about Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in military populations and specifically in recruits in training. Current medical protocols for those who join the military do not include an ECG, so potential heart problems are often missed. A simple, inexpensive ECG can catch hidden heart defects, many of which are treatable. Every military member deserves an ECG and the chance to prevent a life-altering or life-ending event.
