Established in 1987, the organization operates with a mission to put God's love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. It seeks to empower families by providing affordable housing, which frees them from financial and emotional hardships, allowing for increased stability and self-reliance.

Mission and Vision

The organization's mission aligns with that of Habitat for Humanity International: to bring people together to build homes and communities. Its vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. By partnering with families and the community, Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley aims to reduce the need for subsidized housing.

Programs and Services

  • Homeownership Program: Families become homeowners by investing "sweat equity," working alongside volunteers to build their homes. Homeowners also receive education in homeownership and financial literacy before and after home completion. Homes are sold at a lower cost with a 0% interest, thirty-year mortgage, ensuring affordability and sustainability.

  • Education and Support: The organization provides ongoing guidance for new homeowners on financial and social services, fostering a lifelong partnership with the families they serve.

  • Habitat ReStore: The local ReStore is a nonprofit retail outlet selling donated building materials, furniture, and appliances. Proceeds from ReStore sales are used to fund local home building and community development projects.

Impact

Since its inception, Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley has assisted over 300 families in achieving homeownership. This not only improves the families' living conditions but also contributes to community development, fostering stability and self-reliance among residents.

The organization receives financial support from private donors, businesses, and community organizations. This support is essential for maintaining its operations and expanding its impact in the region.

building homes communities and hope apply volunteer donate The Need The need for affordable housing in Madison and Limestone County is great. Of the families in our area who make less than 48000 a year 42 of them pay 50 or more of their gross income for housing. This is a statistic that needs to change. When people spend all of their money time and energy on their home it leaves little for education improvement peace or purpose.
