Recently, Highland's fourth graders took their first school-sponsored overnight trip to Jamestown. Over the next two days, these intrepid young historians (and budding travelers) visited the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, watched a demonstration of colonial-era glass blowing, took a ferry ride on the James River, and toured the Jamestown Settlement. Throw in a few bus rides, some tasty chicken parmesan for dinner, and an evening of stories and s'mores around the, and campfire, and you've got the makings of a fun, memorable, and formational field trip. The girls varsity soccer team played to a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in last week's VISAA DII State Tournament finals against Veritas School in Richmond. Playing on Veritas's home field, it felt like the Hawks were in for an uphill battle from the start. After a strong early chance by the Hawks, the two teams settled in for a battle of possession in the midfield. Midway through the first half, a penalty kick was given to Veritas. The Hawks fought desperately to even the score with strong chances in the second half but couldn't find the net. The final score ended at 1-0 for Veritas.
