Our Mission is to “provide the tools needed in a program-focused environment for a second chance” Horizon Communities in Prison is a catalyst in redeveloping and rehabilitating inmates for a second chance in life. Horizon Communities prepare inmates to live responsibly with others. A multi-faceted curriculum provides inmates with opportunities to effect an inner transformation - a change of heart, attitude and behaviors - leading to increased safety inside and outside prisons, family strengthening and restoration, and decreased prison violence. Horizon programs delivered by large teams of volunteers facilitating programs to enable participants to create a positive sub-culture and learn to live with others with mutual respect, trust and support. Paid coordinators coordinate Horizon programs with each specific prison. Educational enhancement programs from Horizon's partner, New Century Education, are provided on computers in the prison dorms or education wing. During the 12 month Horizon program, many inmates earn their GED and or make significant advances in their education grade level.
