Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia, Limited (or, more simply, Markland Medieval) is a non-profit educational society dedicated to the study and recreation of the Middle Ages. It was founded in 1969 at the University of Maryland when the first annual re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings was held. Since that time, Markland has re-enacted battles, held battle recreations both staged and martial, prepared and served feasts, performed public demonstrations, educated itself and the public about the Middle Ages.
