Elderwise
Elderwise offers an affordable opportunity for senior adults in Southeast Michigan to engage in lifelong learning through intellectual enrichment and camaraderie. Since its establishment in 1992, Elderwise has grown steadily; most Elderwise participants return for years and many volunteer. Each semester offers 55-65 classes to 350 or more enrollees. Classes appeal to a range of interests in science, nature, history, politics/current events, the arts, travel and world cultures. Aside from its 3/4-time Administrative Coordinator, Elderwise relies on loyal volunteers for ALL instructional and administrative functions. Annual fundraising and a lean budget keep us solvent. Elderwise maintains high ethical standards and is governed democratically by its standing committees and Council.
