Gamma Phi Beta Sorority is a social sorority founded on November 11, 1874, at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. It was the first Greek organization to be officially termed a "sorority," with the term coined by Dr. Frank Smalley, a Syracuse University professor, in 1882. The founders, Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham, aimed to create a supportive environment for women on campus.

History

Initially known as a society, it gained the title "sorority" in 1882, marking a significant milestone in recognizing women's organizations in the United States. • Jewel: The Pearl is the official jewel.
• Badge: Designed by Tiffany & Co. in 1874, the badge features a black crescent moon cradling the Greek letters ΓΦΒ.

Philanthropy
