The United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) is a 501(c)(19) nonprofit organization established in 1969. It is dedicated to advancing the interests of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Corps while fostering integrity, fidelity, and fellowship among its members.
Mission and Activities
The CPOA aims to support the welfare of Coast Guard personnel, especially Chief Petty Officers, and their families. It works to provide assistance to those in need, promote community service projects, and advocate for military and veterans' issues. The association also plays a significant role in disaster relief efforts by supporting Coast Guard families affected by natural disasters.
Chapters and Membership
The CPOA has 126 chapters and branches across the United States, with nearly 11,000 members. This extensive network enables the organization to engage in substantial community and social activities.
Funding and Initiatives
The CPOA raises funds to support various initiatives, including scholarships and financial aid for Coast Guard families. In recent years, the association has given over $600,000 to support these families and their communities. It also collaborates with other organizations to provide grants, especially during natural disaster relief efforts, having distributed nearly $2 million since 2017.
Partnerships
The association partners with several military and veterans' organizations, including The Military Coalition, to advocate for legislation that benefits current and former members of the armed forces and their families. It also works closely with the Coast Guard Foundation to provide relief and support to Coast Guard families in need.
Representation
The CPOA participates in national ceremonies and events, such as the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, to honor and represent the U.S. Coast Guard community.
