Since 1950 The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is the nations oldest largest and most diverse civil and human rights coalition. From the beginning we were forged to fight the intractable together. We are living in an era of unprecedented threats to our democracy and attacks on our rights but we must remember that we the diverse coalition of Americans of every background and identity and ability who know that we all have a stake in each others lives and futures are the majority in this country.

Minneapolis and Louisville, where police officers killed George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, will no longer have consent decrees with their police departments, sending the message to the people that police can violate their constitutional rights — and that this regime will protect police over people. The civil rights community will continue to call on state and local leaders to pursue their own reforms, hold police departments accountable, and protect their communities from police abuse.
