Welcome to Steel Magic Northwest. We teach music and build community in the context of the modern steel orchestra in the Seattle, WA area. Steel Magic Northwest exists to teach music, teamwork, discipline, and leadership, and to build community in the context of the modern steel orchestra.Our specific goals are to:• Provide a safe, family-structured after school environment where children from 5th through 12th grade can not only learn music, but also discipline, teamwork, the value and rewards of dedication and patience, and leadership skills as they move up in the graduated ensembles.• Provide an ongoing support community for the participants. • Remove any financial or logistical barriers to participation for children from low-income families. • Provide a rich environment for adult learning, where lifelong learners of all ages and from diverse backgrounds can bond through the unifying power of music.• Educate and entertain the general public with the music we make, in our indoor concert series, and in free outdoor public performances in the area.• Lead by example to generate regional enthusiasm for these programs, training music educators at the many schools in our region which aren’t currently using their steel band instruments due to lack of specialized training.
