Portland Community ToolBank

The Portland Community ToolBank stewards an inventory of tools for lending to charitable organizations to increase the impact of their mission-related efforts in the community. The Portland ToolBank serves charitable organizations by putting high-quality tools in the hands of the volunteers who are painting schools, building/maintaining playgrounds, constructing ramps for injured veterans and the disabled, repairing seniors' roofs, landscaping public spaces, and more, guaranteeing that every volunteer is equipped with the tools they need to get the job done. Our vast inventory is available year-round to charitable organizations such as: tax-exempt organizations; veterans groups; schools and PTAs/PTOs; neighborhood associations; faith-based groups; civic organizations; and government agencies. Virtually any group performing community projects can utilize ToolBank tools. We provide tools to enhance the charitable sector's capacity to serve, facilitating hands-on volunteerism in the greater Portland/SW Washington area. The Portland ToolBank maintains a 10,000 square foot warehouse/office space and an inventory comprised of more than 8,000 tools/140 different tool types and equipment in volumes large enough to equip thousands of volunteers at a time. Access to ToolBank tools eliminates the need for agencies to incur the expense of purchasing, repairing, and storing tools, reducing the costs associated with service projects and allowing these agencies to focus more of their resources on their mission. The Portland ToolBank impacts the community by sharing our resources with charitable groups so they can equip volunteers to efficiently complete work in less time, with the right tools, at minimal costs. We lend tools to member agencies so they are able to leverage limited resources to substantially increase the scope of their work for mission-related efforts while engaging more volunteers. Using ToolBank tools, nonprofits avoid the expenses of tool purchasing, repairs, and storage. By housing, maintaining, and lending tools to volunteers, communities reap benefits in a more efficient and productive manner.
