May is Sex Ed for All Month, a national call to action to ensure every young person has access to comprehensive, medically accurate, and inclusive sex education. Research shows that the vast majority of parents—regardless of political ideology, religion, race, culture, class, or geography—want their kids’ education to include sex education. It’s more than just risk reduction and disease prevention. It supports mental health and empathy, building a more compassionate and kind generation. Earlier this week, RCRC CEO Rev. Katey Zeh joined Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom and Planned Parenthood South Atlantic for Faith Leaders Advocacy Day. Together, we met with key members of the North Carolina General Assembly to make it clear that people of faith support reproductive freedom, transgender rights, minors’ access to health care, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. And we oppose proposed book bans. These are all issues that the North Carolina legislature will consider this session. It was a beautiful day to be in community with people of many faiths and traditions to share a unified message of inclusion, compassion, and love. As Rev. Katey Zeh said in her speech, “True religious freedom is not a weapon wielded by those in power to strip others of their rights. Rather religious freedom in its purest form is a shield that protects all of us from religious domination.” (fb)
