THE ROBERTS SETTLEMENT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1835 BY A GROUP OF AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILIES WHO MADE CONSCIOUS DECISIONS TO RELOCATE THEIR FAMILIES TO THE MIDWEST FRONTIER WHERE SLAVERY WAS BANNED. A CHAPEL AND CEMETARY IN ATLANTA, INDIANA UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE ROBERTS SETTLEMENT ARE MAINTAINED BY INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE A DIRECT ANCESTRAL CONNECTION TO THE ROBERTS SETTLEMENT.
