Preserve Shady Rest Committee
The Preserve Shady Rest Committee is an all-volunteer organization that celebrates the history of the Shady Rest Golf & Country Club (est. 1921) and promotes its enjoyment by a diverse community. The first in the nation to welcome a majority Black membership, the Clubhouse and its grounds reflect the rich inclusive history of Scotch Plains then and now. The Committee preserves and provides public access to the Clubhouse and grounds—a gathering place for all-star athletes, a-list jazz performers, and neighborhood families alike seeking recreation and entertainment. The Shady Rest Golf & Country Club was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
