This year’s winner of GFC's Robert D. Stillman Dignity Award - Autism Voice - is doing just that for children with autism and their families. Established in 2020, the Robert D. Stillman Dignity Award honors organizations responding to risks and challenges that affect the wellbeing of children and youth. Autism Voice, is a community-based organization in South London that supports Black and global-majority families facing unique challenges in accessing autism services. Through their programs such as social clubs, craft-making courses, and family support workshops, Autism Voice helps autistic children and young people express themselves freely, build social skills, and gain a sense of belonging. How is community-led change is making a difference in the lives of the Bede community in Bangladesh? 🤝🌎 Imagine spending your life on a small boat traveling over the huge rivers of Bangladesh, where the boat is used not just as a source of transportation but is where you cook, sleep, bathe, and, at leisure, rest ⛵ To bring growth and the promise of a brighter future to the Bede community – a minority group in Bangladesh living on boats – Global Fund for Children’s (GFC) youth-led partner Alokito Kori stepped in with education, financial, and social support, all through a community-led approach. The partnership between Alokito Kori and GFC – which is supported by We Trust – has been instrumental in driving change. This collaboration focuses on community-led development, inspiring Bede people to take charge of their lives. Through collective ideation and action, the community has begun to believe in their power to bring about change.
