Citizenship: Foster the next generation of artists and leaders who will become future patrons of the arts through training, performance, and outreach programs.NCT is both a teaching theatre and a producing theatre, producing theatre and performers since 1984. NCT has produced an annual season of shows since its original production of Camelot in 1984, and brings between 50,000 to 70,000 audience members, each year, to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium and the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. NCT has built its reputation of artistic excellence and high production value on its unique blend of Equity performers from New York and around the country, along with the best local talent in our community.For more than 30 years, NC Theatre has been a pillar in the local arts community not only for its main stage performances, but also for its performing arts education program. NC Theatre Conservatory has trained many young artists who have become professional artists in regional theatre and on Broadway. It has also given amateur and aspiring artists a space to explore their artistic and creative selves and learn about the transformative power of the arts. The company has remained steadfast to its three-pronged mission of promoting culture, community and citizenship, as is evidenced by NC Theatre's commitment to audience engagement and community partnerships, which often positively impact local economic development. NC Theatre is an organization that provides quality arts programming to Raleigh and surrounding areas, and is proud of and honored by the support it has received from the community since its inception. The North Carolina Theatre PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 23 2024 The North Carolina Theatre has been Raleighs largest professional theatre company producing live musical theatre for 40 years. With profound sadness the NCT Board of Directors announces that it must implement a financial restructuring by seeking protection under Chapter 11 and suspending the remainder of its 2024 season. As a beloved theatre company housed within the Martin Marietta Performing Arts Center in downtown Raleigh NCT has been recognized throughout the nation as a beacon of professional performing arts in North Carolina. The financial restructuring is a necessary step toward rebuilding and revitalizing The North Carolina Theatre for the future.
