Axia! One Year Anniversary of Ordination of Archdeaconess Angelic-Phoebe. The St. Phoebe Center for the Deaconess is celebrating this historic milestone by fundraising for the African Women’s Grant. Honoring the fact that women are richly engaged in African Orthodoxy, the St. Phoebe Center for the Deaconess created the African Women’s Grant (https://orthodoxdeaconess.org/african-womens-grant/) (AWG). Support through the AWG has included the funding of Archdeaconess Angelic-Phoebe Molen’s university studies at Zimbabwe Open University. Statistics show that an overwhelming majority of priests experience burnout. In the ancient church, priests had the support of deacons and deaconesses, who served in ministerial roles, alleviating many of the duties we expect our priests to be responsible for today. This Zoom event will examine the damage burnout causes – to both clergy and laity – and how the revival of the female diaconate could help restore spiritual health and well-being in our churches today.
