Willa Cather joined the Grace Episcopal Church in 1922 and she and her siblings purchased two of the church's stained glass windows in memory of their father Charles F. Cather and their mother Mary Virginia Cather. The beautiful windows were made in the Munich Pictorial style by the Emil Frei Art Glass Company at their factories in St. Louis, Missouri, and Munich, Germany, and were restored in recent years by the same company, Emil Frei & Associates, Inc. Following Cather’s death in 1947, Bishop George Beecher led memorial services for her here. For many years, a service has been held in conjunction with the Willa Cather Spring Conference, and the church is a regular stop on guided tours. The two black and white images are in our National Willa Cather Center Collections and Archives and were taken in 1972.
