We have an update on Francine. She came to us with a fractured femur. During her assessment we found her to have a high level subluxation of the patella and hip issues on her other leg. She’s going to need two extensive orthopedic surgeries. Our orthopedic vet team has determined that she will first need to have her fractured leg repaired then on the other leg for knee surgery and FHO to stabilize her hip. Her surgeries are estimated to be in excess of $5000. Francine is a sweet little 2 year old girl who loves to play and doesn’t let her disability stop her. Meet Dixie (Mama), a 10 year old shelter pull, who came into MAPR with 3 other pugs. She has extensive dental disease and will probably lose all of her cute little teeth. She has skin issues and hair loss most likely from flea infestation. Her white blood count is incredibly high, indicating an infection, likely from her mouth, but could, also, be pyometria (life threatening infection of the uterus). She is going in to be spayed and maybe a dental but we won’t know until we see what’s going on with her uterus. See all that loose skin under her belly? That is from many litters of puppies. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon thing for us to see in rescue. She is the sweetest girl ever and MAPR will make sure she is loved and treated like a family member for the rest of her life.
