Working in more than 30 countries, IWPR trains and provides platforms for local reporters, strengthens the institutional capacity of local media and civic and community groups, and works with experts and, where appropriate, governments to extend the environment for freedom of expression and constructive local debate in support of transparency, accountability and sustainable development.Founded more than 20 years ago during the conflict in the Balkans, today IWPR helps people in the world's most challenging environments have the information they need to drive positive changes in their lives — holding government to account, demanding constructive solutions, strengthening civil society and securing human rights. Wherever it works, IWPR partners with a wide range of local organizations and institutions, from independent print, radio and TV media, to human rights and women’s groups, to schools, universities, and research institutions. IWPR’s work has been recognized by organizations as diverse as Amnesty International and One World New Media.
