Friends of Rabbits was founded in 1997 as an organization to educate, rescue, and advocate for the needs of domestic house rabbits. We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in the Washington DC / Baltimore greater metropolitan area. Our Goals are education, rescue and advocacy for domestic rabbits. Educate the public on the responsibilities involved with having a rabbit and the importance of spay/neutering Rescue rabbits from shelters with emergency funding, fostering, and adoption support Advocate by assuring a safe and healthy environment for every companion rabbit and supporting their caregiver Rescue as many domestic rabbits as possible within our means.

Last year we took in a rabbit from one of the local animal shelters. At the shelter Duncan was displaying many behavioral problems, the most concerning was that he was biting the staff, not just little nips but hard enough to break the skin and leave bruises. The shelter was going to euthanize him if they couldn’t find rescue placement.
