Arise Citizens Policy Project

The Arise Citizens Policy Project (ACPP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Alabama. It operates as a statewide coalition consisting of over 150 congregations and community groups, along with numerous individual members. ACPP is dedicated to promoting state and national policies that aim to improve the lives of low-income Alabamians.

Mission and Activities

ACPP's mission is grounded in the belief that low-income individuals suffer significantly due to harmful state policies. Therefore, the organization focuses on policy analysis, statewide organizing, and citizen advocacy. Through these activities, ACPP seeks to equip its members with the tools necessary for active participation in the democratic process, including legislative advocacy.

  • Policy Analysis: ACPP conducts thorough analyses of current state policies and legislative proposals, assessing their impact on low-income populations.
  • Statewide Organizing: The organization empowers low-income individuals by ensuring their voices are heard in policy development processes.
  • Citizen Advocacy: Members are educated and supported to engage effectively in legislative advocacy.
Affiliations and Programs

ACPP's sister organization is Alabama Arise, a 501(c)(4) advocacy group that shares the same membership. Together, they work towards improving the welfare of all Alabamians. ACPP has participated in initiatives like the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative, which aims to enhance state capacity for analyzing tax and budget policies benefiting low- and middle-income families.

Funding and Grants

ACPP has received significant grants, such as those from the Mott Foundation, which support their policy analysis and community outreach efforts. These grants have helped ACPP integrate rigorous policy analysis into its community organizing activities.
