ChildServe Clinic Inc., operating under the name ChildServe, is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children and young adults with special healthcare needs.
History
ChildServe has its roots dating back to 1928 when it began serving children as the Convalescent Home for Children. Over the years, it evolved through mergers and expansions to become a comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation center. The organization was officially renamed ChildServe and has since grown to provide a wide range of services across Iowa.
Mission and Vision
ChildServe's mission is to partner with families to help children with special healthcare needs live a great life. Its vision is to transform lives by continuously improving pediatric healthcare. The organization is driven by values that prioritize the needs of children and involve families in the care process.
Programs and Services
ChildServe offers specialized clinical, home, and community-based programs designed to meet the unique needs of children with developmental delays, disabilities, injuries, and other special healthcare needs. These services include:
- Pediatric Rehabilitation: Expert care for children with various developmental challenges.
- Inpatient Complex Medical Care: Provides 24-hour skilled nursing care in a family-focused environment for children unable to live at home due to complex medical needs.
- Therapy Services: Includes occupational, physical, speech, recreational, and music therapy tailored for each child's development.
- Medical Childcare: Offers onsite nursing care, rehabilitation therapy, and support for children with complex medical needs.
Impact
ChildServe supports over 5,800 children annually, making it one of the most comprehensive pediatric healthcare providers in the Midwest. Their services are authorized and funded through Medicaid and commercial insurance.
Accreditation and Recognition
ChildServe has achieved national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for meeting rigorous quality standards in pediatric rehabilitation and healthcare services.
Expansion and Development
The organization is continuously expanding its services and facilities to meet growing healthcare needs. Recent initiatives include the expansion of their Des Moines location to increase capacity and offer more specialized programs such as autism day programs and neurobehavioral health clinics.
