Being an “alpha” isn’t what you think! In wild wolf packs, the leaders of the pack - which is essentially just a family - are the parents. Scientists no longer use the term “alpha” to describe wolf hierarchy and instead opt for the more accurate title of “breeding pair”. However in our rescue pack, there are no biological parents who have been rescued with their pups. Instead, Taboo took on a maternal role as we rescued young pups and graciously reared them as her own. Many years later, long after she crossed the rainbow bridge, her wisdom continues on in this next generation of Apex pack members as she passed the torch to Thor. It is truly astonishing to see how intelligent, sentient, kind and nurturing wolves are by nature. It’s RAMADAY! Today we are celebrating 2 years since Rama’s “gotcha” day! Apex rescued Rama when concerned neighbors in his community reached out about a wolfdog who was constantly escaping his back yard, often seen roaming busy, car-filled streets, putting his life at great risk. Since then, he has become one of our top ambassadors, educating audiences far and wide about the importance of his cousins in the wild. We couldn’t be more proud of our little rockstar and are so thankful that we were able to give him sanctuary, community, family and even his own den, to call home. Happy “gotcha” day, Ramalama! (fb)
